VARGAS ISLAND~ REAL ESTATE SHOOT

I really enjoyed this! What was a real estate shoot of an exclusive property on Vargas Island, BC, felt more like an adventure shoot for National Geographic.

Stephanie, and Dallas La Porta, of La Porta Properties, and I, drove to Tofino, where we me John Dowd, of Sealegs, who had his pretty amazing boat to get us to the Island. We just pulled into the marina and parked our truck beside the boat, loaded our gear into the boat, jumped in, and drove across the parking lot, and into the water, retract the “sealegs” start the boat motor, and were up on plain in seconds!

The 65 acre property, has not been developed yet, and west coast surf was rolling in strong and beautiful. There was not a dock to pull up to, that’s where John’s Sealegs came in to get us, and our gear to the shoot site, or at least pretty close. He found a sandy cove, timed the surf, and glided us right onto the beach, lowered the legs, and there we were!. We unloaded the boat, packed up, and began our hike to the site. My Helicopter-(“Molly”)/ camera gear travels well, pretty much in one full luggage size tough military case, which is waterproof. It took us about half an hour through the woods on a rough trail, that hadn’t been blazed in some time. As we climbed to the point of the property where the building site would likely be, we all moaned at the beauty of the location, true rugged west coast, we all felt like we were in a painting…

The lighting, and weather window was perfect, and could change at any moment, so without wasting any time, I began setting up “Molly” to catch the wonderful light. It takes about half an hour to get her ready to fly. There was not any flat area’s to be found for the launch / landing site. I usally like about a 6’x6’ clear flat area, in this case I went with a smooth rock that served us well. There was a fairly strong wind, so it took some planning to try get the smoothest shot possible. The footage in the movie, is as shot, with out any post stabilization!

Well, the whole shoot / adventure went really well, we came back the next day and got some sunset shots. Great location, great people all the way around!
